After turning 20, here's 20 things that are important to me or that I've learned in these two decades. Hopefully you learn something new or have a chance to reflect on how far you've come!
1. God is great.
He has a plan for you. Trust Him and the process. My journey to developing my relationship with God has brought me spiritual tranquility. I am loving who I am becoming because of the values I practice and the blessings I have from Him.
2. There's only 1 you.
You are unique and have so much to offer.
3. Set goals for yourself. Be ambitious.
4. Do what makes your heart happy.
You are in charge of your life. Live life to the fullest!
5. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
People make mistakes. We’re human!
6. Keep in touch with your family.
Tell your loved ones that you appreciate them.
7. Being kind makes a big impact in your life and someone else’s.
We aren’t always aware of the challenges people are going through. Giving a compliment, reaching out to someone, and offering to help can make a difference.
8. Believe in yourself and your potential.
Take that trip to Europe! Go back to college! Apply for that job! Do what makes you happy. Don’t limit yourself because of the fear of failure. Our fears become our limits. So what you failed? Take that as an opportunity to learn from what went wrong.
9. Don't compare your pathway or journey to others.
10. Repeat affirming words to yourself.
Your mindset alters how you feel and the decisions you make. Believe in yourself.
11. Live in the moment!
Limit screen time and stop living in the past. Build memories with those who play a positive role in your life.
12. Be humble.
Life isn’t about materialistic things. Social media gets wrapped up in the lux. It often forgets that we don’t have to constantly prove ourselves to people based on what we buy or how much money we have.
13. Find your passion.
Explore what the world has to offer. Finding out what you don't like is just as important as what you do like. For example, take a pottery class. You might end up loving something that you didn't expect to enjoy and continue to pursue it. On the other hand, it might not be your passion and that's okay! You now have a new skill or experience and a cool art piece. :)
14. Create a budget plan.
Being a college student can present financial stress. Creating a budget that works for you will help you out greatly. Save money and tailor it to what’s important to you. Also, apply for as many scholarships, grants, and financial aid programs as you can. You never know when you'll get awarded.
15. Find ways to express yourself.
For me, I love art and bullet journaling. I can get my thoughts out on paper/canvas and create something meaningful in the process.
16. Embrace your feelings.
17. Treat yourself!
Take a break from working hard! Hang out with friends, host a party, get a facial. Do something fun!
18. Take advantage of resources.
There are so many resources and people that can help you excel in your career or personal life. It’s rare that someone will come up to you and know exactly what you need. Reach out, send emails, and ask questions. I can’t tell you the number of conversations I’ve had that have simply led to making connections. I've met others who are experts in that field or know where to find the answer to what I’m looking for.
19. You're a role model to someone.
As the oldest sister, I know that my siblings look up to me. Most of the time, I encounter things beforehand and I've learned how to navigate myself through certain scenarios, such as college. I noticed that I like being a leader and helping others overcome their challenges.
20. Step out of your comfort zone.
It’s hard to get out of a place where we feel comfortable and safe. I’ve learned that once I step out of that box, I see more growth.
