A Solution for Dirty Makeup Brushes

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

Can you think of the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? If not, it's time to grab these ingredients you already have at home and wash them!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to clean your makeup brushes. Bacteria begins to build up in between the bristles which can irritate our skin and nobody wants that. This is how I clean my makeup brushes with common household supplies.

What you'll need

Dish Soap

Olive Oil

Clean Plate

Lukewarm Water

Your Brushes

Dish Towel

Mix the ingredients. . .

Depending on how many brushes you are going to clean, mix the dish soap and olive oil so that for every 2 tablespoons of dish soap, you are going to use 1 tablespoon of olive oil (keeping the ratio 2:1).

Next. . .Wash!

After you’ve created your mixture, take your brush and wet the bristles with lukewarm water. NEVER run the water over the brush with the bristles facing up. This will ruin the adhesive that is holding the bristles together. Try approaching the water with the brush on its side.

After the brush is damp, dip it in the mixture you made. Using your fingers, you will see the makeup come off the brush. Coat it as many times as you need to get rid of the makeup on the brush. Wash the brush again until you don’t see any makeup or soap on it.

Ready to use!

Now the brush is clean! Lay the brush on its side on a dish towel. Don't leave it standing up because it could mess with the glue inside. Repeat the process for the rest of your brushes and after they've had time to dry, they should be soft and ready to use!
