Pumpkin patches and apple cider, haunted house trips with friends, and beautifully colored trees - the best of autumn. It's time to start getting all of your cozy clothes out from the back of your closet. But what are the few components that make up a fall outfit?

Layers
Some days it's chilly enough in the morning to wear a sweater, but somehow you end up sweating in the afternoon. The key word is layers. I love vests, blazers, pea coats, and cardigans (and the list goes on). I like bringing a sweatshirt or a light jacket with me to class on days like these. I can easily remove it when it starts to get hot and it’s not a hassle to carry around. For me, denim jackets are the perfect transition piece from summer to autumn.
You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to redo your closet. Go in and start combining or styling different pieces together that you typically wouldn’t.
Color Scheme
Like any other season, autumn has a particular color scheme. You have the neutrals and then there are the pops of deeper colors such as crimson and plum.
With that said, there are no colors that are strictly prohibited from wearing this season (like white pants after Labor day). Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident!

Shoes to Wear
Once October hits, every sandal and open toed shoe goes straight to storage. I keep my sneakers and flats out, but once the snow hits, I am not going to be wearing those outside as much. Boots, closed-toe heels, and suede shoes are included in the collection of footwear, along with sneakers and flats, that I pair with outfits.

Combining Patterns and Styling Pieces
Earlier, I mentioned layering, which is one of my favorite things about this season. My go-to outfit is a cute sweater with a necklace or scarf, dark jeans, and ankle boots. To step it up, make it monochromatic. It’s classy and effortless.
Pairing different patterns is another great way to spice it up just like layering accessories. Just make sure that both patterns aren't bold. Having one more bold than the other can add a nice contrast to your look. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to redo your closet. Go in and start combining or styling different pieces together that you typically wouldn’t.
Stay warm and cozy this season!
